Basketball FAQs

What brand of basketball systems do you carry?
We carry PROformance Hoops® Basketball Systems.
What makes the basketball systems you sell different from those at sporting goods stores?
PROformance Hoops Basketball goals feature premium quality components that aren‘t visible at first glance, such as one-piece poles, 7-gauge steel, and ½" tempered glass backboards—superior to mass retail models.
What size backboard should I choose?
For casual play, any size works. For small spaces, a 54" backboard is ideal, while 60 inches is our most popular choice. For competitive play, opt for regulation 72" backboards.
What is tempered/toughened glass?
Tempered glass is four times stronger than regular glass, similar to what is used in automobiles. When broken, it shatters into small pieces that typically remain within the frame, reducing injury risk.
What is a gusset?
A gusset is a triangular steel piece welded between the pole and the base plate to increase strength and stability.
What does "gauge" mean in relation to steel?
Gauge indicates the thickness of steel; a lower number means thicker steel. For example, 7-gauge is thicker than 11-gauge.
What is the difference between hot-dipped galvanized steel and zinc electroplated steel?
Hot-dip galvanizing involves coating steel with melted zinc, creating a strong bond. Zinc electroplating uses electricity for a slightly thinner zinc coating.
What is overhang?
Overhang is the distance from the back of the backboard to the front of the pole, offering players additional space for a better court experience.
How are PROformance Hoops® anchored into the ground?
A PROformance Pier Mount Anchor (which is included in your system, is utilized for securing the pole into the ground. Refer to the Pier Mount Anchor manual for details.
Can I take my PROformance Hoops® System with me if I move?
Yes, you can remove the system from the Pier Mount Anchor and relocate it. A new Pier Mount Anchor must be installed at the new site.
Should I install the Basketball Goal myself or use a professional installer?
It‘s your choice, but we recommend consulting a local PROformance Hoops® authorized installer for best results.
What is the difference between the PROformance Hoops PROclassic, PROforce, and PROview series?
The PROview series features 7-gauge steel, thinner tempered glass backboards, and a height adjustment from 6 to 10 ft with the Power Arc 90° Lift assist. The PROforce line uses 11-gauge steel, has a height adjustment from 7.5 to 10 ft, and includes a 3/8” thick tempered glass backboard. The PROclassic also features 11-gauge steel, has a similar height adjustment, and includes a Gusset Pad.
Do you offer fixed height basketball systems?
Yes, the PROview® and PROforce Series include both adjustable and fixed height options.
Why do we use a full perimeter aluminum trim around our backboard?
The aluminum trim provides additional support, safety, and playability by protecting the edges and ensuring the integrity of the tempered glass.
What are the dimensions of a basketball court?
For detailed basketball court dimensions, please see our [Basketball Court Dimensions page](https://proformancehoops.com/basketball-court-dimensions/).
What is the Power Arc 90 Lift Assist Height Adjustment System?
This system uses dual cylinders for height adjustment, featuring a tension screw mechanism for precision and an internal spring for low resistance, ensuring easy and precise height changes.
